Learn the art of creating interlocking repeat patterns. Design your stamp then carve and print to create borders and all over print designs. You’ll make at least two hand carved stamps to use again and again in art quilts, collage, mixed media art and wearables. I will also share ways to colorize using dye pastels, intense pencils and paint. All levels welcome.
Once you know the secrets, it's easier than you'd ever believe to create the look of heirloom-quality hand appliqué with finished edges – all with your sewing machine. And when it comes to style and versatility, the sky is the limit!
Create a beautiful finished-edge machine appliquéd and quilted Celtic-style knotwork design with Beth Ann's machine-appliqué-and-quilt in 1 step method. A no-hand-sewing-needed hanging sleeve option is also included. At 22 1/2" square, this lovely quilt will be a special family keepsake or treasured gift.
Finish your quilts with confidence! Go beyond quilting in-the-ditch and discover fast, fun, and deceptively easy ways to complement piecing, enhance a focal area, and create a variety of wonderful textures, all while machine quilting with a walking foot.
Choose a diamond or circular design to create your own butterfly garden. There are no small appliques to stitch down. Instead, groups of flowers and other motifs are cut from a printed fabric. Using the motif outline as a guide, the motifs are sewn onto a background using a simple hand stitch. This is the perfect workshop to introduce you to the Broderie Perse applique technique. All Hand Sewing
This template free "variation" on a scrappy log cabin block requires cutting, sewing and pressing 1" wide strips and squares together; sub-cutting and sewing them back together to make a 12" block. Nine blocks are sewn together with a piano key border to make a 47" square quilt. Michele will share her precise cutting, piecing tips and pressing tips to help you be successful.
What DO you do with all those leftover scraps? Crumb quilts are the ultimate scrap fabric projects because you are using what you already have in order to create your own fabric! Add fabric to connect your crumb quilted strips in different ways! Create any size quilt you want by adding more blocks horizontally and/or vertically!
Have fun creating your own colorful bouquet of flowers as you learn to make fancy Ruched Roses. You can choose to use one fabric for all three roses or add variation by using two different fabrics for the center and for the petals. You will gain confidence in the Needle Turn Technique as you use freezer paper to stitch smoothly around your leaves and bow to tie up your bouquet. All sewing done by hand.
Fabric collage is a fun and versatile technique. In this one-of-a-kind workshop you will create landscape icons that celebrate the beauty of nature. You will learn how to create your own fabrics using collage and free motion zigzag. Add the finishing touches with either the northern lights or a setting sun by using a variety of techniques to create texture, depth and visual interest in your art quilt.
Perfect precision is not required to create this stunning sunflower. You will explore the world of color to select fabrics for the flower, cut and sew your strips, and arrange your strips to create a wave-like effect (the Bargello). Then transform the Bargello into an amazing sunflower adding the finishing touches with free motion zigzag. What colour is your sunflower going to be?
Add beads of all shapes and sizes to your quilts and wearable art, easily and after you are done quilting. Here’s the prize: no knots or mess on the back! Learn to embellish in a way that adds to the overall design instead of looking like an afterthought. Students will create a small fabric flower collage on batting and learn different beading techniques such as solid line bead embroidery, attaching bugle beads, and creating a beaded bezel used to attach a cabochon to the fabric’s surface.
Create a lovely little needle case (or book cover) to show off your new block carving and printing skills. Students will learn basic block carving techniques using easy to handle materials. Use the designs provided by the teacher or create your own. Instructions for constructing a pocketed needle case and a slipcover for a book will be demonstrated but students do not need to sew the project during class.
